Relationships and Health Education

At Holy Family, our Relationships and Health Education is rooted in the belief that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and has unique dignity and worth. Through our Catholic understanding of the human person, we seek to educate the whole child, supporting pupils’ spiritual, moral, emotional, social and physical development.

We teach Relationships and Health Education through Life to the Full by Ten Ten Resources, a programme designed specifically for Catholic schools. Its teaching is rooted in the understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God – created, chosen and loved by God.

Life to the Full follows a spiral curriculum, enabling pupils to revisit important themes at an age-appropriate level as they progress through the school. Learning includes relationships and family life, physical and emotional wellbeing, personal safety, growing and changing, puberty, healthy lifestyles, online safety and living responsibly within the wider world. Teaching is carefully adapted to ensure that learning is appropriate to pupils’ age and stage of development.

Through the programme, pupils develop the knowledge, vocabulary and confidence to understand themselves, their bodies, their feelings and their relationships with others. They learn about the importance of love, respect, compassion, consent, personal boundaries and trusted adults and develop the skills to recognise when they may need help and know how to seek support.

Our teaching encourages pupils to develop self-respect and respect for others, recognising the dignity of every person. Children learn how to build and sustain healthy relationships, make informed and responsible choices and understand how their actions can affect themselves and others.

We recognise the important role of parents and carers as the first educators of their children and work in partnership with families, particularly when teaching sensitive aspects of growing, changing and relationships.

Through Relationships and Health Education, we aim to help pupils grow into confident, compassionate and responsible young people who understand their own worth, respect the dignity of others and are equipped to make healthy and safe choices as they grow.
