Year 6 Term 3 2025-2026

Science - Animals Including Humans

This term in science, we have been learning all about the human body. We explored the circulatory system, discovering how blood travels around the body and the important job of the heart as a powerful pump. We also learnt about different nutrients and how they help our bodies stay healthy and strong. It’s been an exciting topic that helped us understand how our bodies work on the inside.

Geography - Exploring Continents – Europe, France and the UK

In geography, we have been comparing France and the United Kingdom. We explored their rivers, mountains and different types of terrain, noticing how each country’s physical geography shapes the way people live. We also looked at climate patterns and how they affect everyday life. As part of our human geography work, we learned about population, settlements and how both countries trade with others around the world. It has helped us understand the similarities and differences between these two European neighbours.

PE - Gymnastics

In PE this term, we have been focusing on gymnastics. We practised key skills such as balancing, hanging and jumping, and learned how to perform different body shapes including tuck, pike and pencil. We also explored controlled rotations, working on 180° and 360° turns. Throughout the unit, we focused on strength, control and precision, helping us build confidence in performing smooth and safe gymnastic movements.

DT

In D.T. this term, we learned all about different types of joints and how they are used in woodwork. We practised making glued joints, used a range of tools safely, and developed our skills in planning, designing and evaluating our work. All of these skills came together in our final project: building our own model of the Eiffel Tower. This helped us understand how structures are created and strengthened, while giving us the chance to be creative engineers.

RE

In RE this term, we explored how the Bible guides and influences the life of the Church and its believers. We learned about the role of the Holy Spirit in inspiring Scripture, investigated the different books of the Bible and their purposes, and reflected on how Old Testament stories link to the coming of Jesus. We also examined how Christians use the Bible today to shape their choices, actions and faith. Throughout the unit, we developed our skills in interpreting Scripture and understanding its importance in Christian life and worship.

ICT

In ICT this term, we explored code breaking and artificial intelligence. We learned how simple ciphers work and practised cracking codes to understand the basics of computational thinking. We then moved on to AI, where we created effective prompts and experimented with generating our own images. This helped us understand how technology interprets instructions and how AI tools can be used creatively and responsibly.

Maths

In maths this term, we have been focusing heavily on fractions. We explored how to recognise, compare and simplify fractions, and learned how to add, subtract, multiply and divide them with increasing confidence. We also used visual models and real‑life examples to help us understand fraction equivalence and mixed numbers. This unit has helped us build strong foundations for more complex number work.

Writing - Rose Blanche

In Year 6, pupils are exploring the powerful picture book Rose Blanche to develop their understanding of life during World War II. They are examining themes of courage and moral choice while learning about the key causes of the war. Using this knowledge, pupils are writing a narrative with dialogue inspired by the story and are producing an information report explaining the causes of World War II.
