PE & Sport Provision at Holy Family Catholic Primary School

Intent

The intent of our PE curriculum at Holy Family is to provide all children with high quality PE and sport provision. It is our vision for every pupil will succeed and achieve to their fullest potential as well as inspiring them to lead physically active lifestyles now, and for the rest of their lives.

At Holy Family, we follow the ‘Real PE’ curriculum and are proud to say that we are a Real PE Legacy school, representing the whole of Kent. In this role, we share the progress and impact of our curriculum implementation with other schools, both in the Kent area and nationally. By giving other schools and their staff the opportunity to observe our practice, we are able to inspire others to follow our example. This will undoubtedly have an impact on 1000s of learners now and for generations to come.

Implementation

Our PE curriculum focuses on the whole child, team building, developing the skills to support others and taking responsibility for their own goals and achievements – all of this with an over-arching ethos of perseverance and challenge.

In all competitions (regardless of the level of success) and in curriculum PE, our children are encouraged to build the key skills of determination and resilience as well as developing the important learning behaviours that transfer into the classroom. We promote this ethos in PE by using learning 6 key learning 'Cogs' - Personal, Social, Cognitive, Creative, Physical and Health & Fitness - and recognising that that each child is an individual and works at their own pace. This inclusive approach centres on encouraging not only physical development but also enhanced well-being for all our pupils.

Our high quality PE and sport provision is further enhanced by the skills of a coach from ‘Kick Sports’. Not only do they run after-school and lunchtime clubs for all year groups, but also support the teachers and children in their PE lessons.

Impact

Our high quality PE and sports provision ensures that all children are given the opportunity to experience many different types of physical activities. They are able to partake in individual and team activities, enabling them to transfer these skills into the classroom and beyond. Children's well-being and inter-personal skills will have been developed through their PE lessons.

School Sports Premium Funding

The Government provides each primary school throughout England with additional funding which is to be spent on improving the sports provision within schools. At Holy Family, we believe a high quality PE curriculum should be an integral part of the whole school curriculum and one that staff, pupils and parents understand and can contribute to.  Our school recognises the values that a high quality PE and school sport curriculum gives pupils.
