Music

Intent

  • Our children will learn that music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity
  • Lessons engage and inspire the children to have a love of music, develop their talent as musicians and increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement
  • They will engage in a critical engagement of music, allowing them to compose and listen to a wide variety of musical forms

Implementation

  • We use the “Charanga” scheme of work from EYFS to Year 6 to ensure a wide exposure of different music genres, with opportunities for practical sessions where they are able to explore and develop as musicians and singers
  • Through listening and appraising music, the children learn about the structure and organisation of the different genres
  • The children develop descriptive language skills in the lessons and are able to express how the music makes the feel and the story that the music tells
  • The children learn technical vocabulary such as: volume, pitch, beat and rhythm
  • They are given the opportunity to deepen and develop their love of music by learning to play instruments such as the ukulele and various types of percussion

Impact

  • Our children learn to work both independently and as part of a group, ensuring skills of resilience and teamwork are promoted in this subject and other areas of the curriculum
  • Opportunities to perform
  • Ensure that our children recognise and understand the significance of music within the wider world
  • Use their knowledge of music within other areas of the curriculum
