English

Good literacy skills—the ability to read, write and communicate confidently—are foundational to learning. They unlock access to all areas of the curriculum and allow pupils to discover and pursue their individual talents and interests. At Holy Family, we believe that great readers become great writers, as the two skills are inextricably linked. This is why we proudly declare: “READING IS KING”—because we truly believe reading is our number one priority!

Through our English curriculum, we teach children the importance of reading, writing, speaking and listening in the real world. By giving pupils context for their learning, they understand the value of English both now and in their futures.

Holy Family are incredibly honored to have won, not one but, two author visits as part of Maidstone's LitFest this October. Pupils are enthralled to be meeting KD Greaves - a children's author who has also worked for the BBC and Channel 4 - and Gianna Pollero, the author of a three-book series titled 'Doughnuts'!
